About
Lynn Wohland
Lynn received her Masters in Art Therapy over two decades ago and started her therapist journey working in a mental health hospital. There she served clients of all ages with a wide range of mental health challenges in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She later moved to working solely with adults on an inpatient behavioral health unit as the only art and recreational therapist. Next, she put counseling skills to use in a different capacity as an area director for a mentoring ministry, training and supervising adult mentors who were spending time with challenged youth. She maintained connections to the kids and their families as well, to help assure healthy and productive mentoring relationships.
Lynn's journey took a leap over the pond where she brought the idea of mentoring relationships overseas as a missionary in Eastern Europe, spending several years focused on building mentoring ministry and serving adults, teens and children in different capacities.
Equipped with many new experiences and cultural exposure, Lynn returned back to the US with a renewed desire to pursue helping others through art and talk therapy. She gained more experience working with geriatrics, trainings in trauma-informed care and earned her LCAT while serving youth in congregate foster care. Lynn then returned to her roots working again in a behavioral health hospital with all ages in both inpatient and outpatient treatment environments, before beginning private practice.
About
Art Therapy
We all have the capacity for creativity and it can show up in many ways. The creative process accesses parts of ourselves that sometimes words alone may not reach and provides the opportunity for self-exploration and expression with a quality of richness and depth. In Art Therapy, this in itself can bring healing and ease symptoms. But other aspects of engaging in art therapy can include increased insight/awareness, greater connections between body, mind and spirit, and providing a safe container for difficult experiences and emotions.
Art therapy can be used in combination with more traditional evidenced-based talk therapies and encompasses a wide range of art forms and mediums. There is no "one size fits all" session and unfolds within the partnership and safety of the therapeutic relationship. At times there may be guidance from the therapist regarding creative ideas that will address an individual's goals and other times the art may be completely spontaneous and client directed.
No artistic experience or aptitude is needed to benefit... art therapists are accustomed to making art accessible to all.
